Kuami Eugene replies those saying he doesn’t deserves the ‘Highlife King’ title

Lynx entertainment act, Kuami Eugene says he deserves the crown and the title ‘Highlife King’.

Kuami who was crowned the King of Highlife artist by legendary musician Amakye Dede at the 20th edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) has come under serious critics from all corners but the singer believes he has really worked hard over the pass years and equally deserves that crown from Amakye Dede.

According to him, “It was a good feeling and performing with Amakye Dede was a blessing. With the crown, it is also a blessing upon my life. I think it’s a negative vibe to say he was forced. Why can’t we appreciate goodness when it happens,” the Angela hitmaker queried.

Kuami Eugene, who wasn’t bothered by critics, said he deserved the praise from the veteran highlife musician, Amakye Dede because he had worked hard over the years.

“I’ve won ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’ back-to-back. Let me say that alone proves I am doing highlife well. I do live performances too and if I have been crowned Highlife act of the new era, I don’t think there is anything bad about it,” he explained.

To those who couldn’t watch the show Amakye Dede put a crown on Eugene’s head and said he is the King highlife after their performance at the VGMA 2019 which shocked many fans at the auditorium.

The issue has generated a lot of controversy in the media space, as some think he deserves it others are questioning the real motive behind the ‘coronation’ in the first place live on stage.

Another turn is Amakye Dede manager Akwasi Boakye has granted interview that his artist was forced to crown Kuami Eugene.

According to the manager, Amakye Dede was persuaded some people to do the crowning but he declined the request.

“KiKi Banson, who was in charge of artiste repertoire for this year’s VGMAs, called to inform him that as part of Amakye Dede’s performance, they want him to crown Kuami Eugene and I told him I have to speak to my artiste about it.

“Amakye Dede was not in support of it when [I] informed him, so I was surprised to see him act against his will,”Aboagye stated in an interview on Accra-based Onua FM.

The manager further narrated that after Amakye Dede declined the request, he was ambushed on stage when a crown was given him unexpectedly to be put on Kuami Eugene’s head.

“So those who watched that act will know that something was not right. According to Amakye Dede, he was surprised to see a lady walk on stage to hand over a crown to him,” he said.
