Manchester City secured a much-needed 3-1 victory at home to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Wounded by a second-half collapse against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, City stumbled into an early deficit in front of their own fans. A weak back-pass from debutant Abdukodir Khusanov was leapt upon by a hungry and well-rested Chelsea side as Noni Madueke swatted the Blues in front after just three minutes.
Pep Guardiola‘s hosts responded on the cusp of half-time, equalising through the relentless forward thrust of Josko Gvardiol after a penetrative dart from his opposite full-back Matheus Nunes.

City took the lead through that familiar figure of Erling Haaland. Latching on to a long pass forward from Ederson – which was a common theme of the second half – City’s number nine punished Robert Sanchez’s poor positioning, chipping Chelsea’s goalkeeper from the right-hand corner of the box in the 68th minute.
Haaland gathered another direct ball forward in the game’s closing stages, setting Phil Foden away to wrap up three points with City‘s third goal of the afternoon.
