North African side Morocco has granted the right to host the 2030 FIFA world cup together with other countries.
The FIFA has officially confirmed today that Portugal, Spain, and Morocco will host the 2030 World Cup, after voting on the single candidacy during its extraordinary congress held in Zurich.
As the sole candidate, the joint bid from Portugal, Spain, and Morocco, titled ‘Yalla Vamos!’, sees the majority of the tournament hosted in these three nations, with three additional matches in the final phase taking place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, celebrating the centenary of the competition, which originally took place in Uruguay in 1930.
As the sole candidate, the joint bid from Portugal, Spain, and Morocco, titled ‘Yalla Vamos!’, aims for the majority of the tournament to be played in these countries, with three final phase matches scheduled for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, in a commemoration of the centenary of the tournament’s inaugural edition in 1930.
The three Portuguese stadiums selected to host matches in the 2030 World Cup are Estádio da Luz and Estádio José Alvalade, both located in Lisbon, and Estádio do Dragão in Porto, with Benfica’s ground – the only one among the three with a minimum capacity of 60,000 seats – set to host one of the semi-finals of the tournament.Read more:
This marks Portugal’s first time organizing a World Cup, after previously hosting the UEFA Euro 2004. Spain has organized UEFA Euro 1964 and FIFA World Cup 1982, while Morocco has hosted the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) solely in 1988, a feat they will replicate in 2025.
Additionally, it was confirmed that the 2034 World Cup will be awarded to Saudi Arabia
