Ghanaian rapper and hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese, has mocked the #PlayGhana initiative launched in the country.
According to the Madtime record label boss, the initiative is not the solution to our problem in the music industry.
Expressing his dissatisfaction on the current state of the Ghanaian music industry, he said we should not ‘beg’ our own people to play our own music in the country.

On December 14, 2023 some industry stakeholders and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency, launched the #PlayGhana initiative.
The initiative aims to promote Ghanaian music nationwide, especially during the Christmas season when there is an influx of diasporas spending their holidays in the country.
In a posted on X (formerly Twitter), the “Dondo” composer wrote;

Speaking at the campaign launch, the Director of the Creative Arts Agency, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, stated that almost every sector of the economy blossoms during Christmas but music seems to be left behind. She expressed optimism that the campaign would greatly boost the awareness of Ghanaian music.
Artistes like Black Sherif and Samini were at the launch and his is what they said;
Black Sherif, stated that the initiative was a step in the right direction for Ghanaian music and culture and urged everyone to support it.
Samini Dagaati, In his speech observed that foreign music has taken over the Apple Music Top 100 Ghana Chart because listeners have been “indoctrinated” to listen to such songs. The My Own hitmaker said this initiative must be strategic and deliberate to push Ghana music.
