TIME FOR A BREAK FROM RADIO
Whether by design or coincidence, I began my radio journey on the 96.1 frequency at Continental Radio, and now I am closing this chapter on the same frequency at Angel FM 96.1.
With mixed emotions, I announce my departure from mainstream radio after twenty-five years. It is time for me to sign off.
First and foremost, I want to thank D.J. Azigiza Junior, the proprietor of ZIGZAG, for training and mentoring me in the art of radio presenting. Your guidance has been instrumental in laying the foundation for my career, and I am forever grateful.
I would also like to express special appreciation to Mr. Isaac Frimpong, known as D.J. Osooko, for providing me with hands-on experience at Otec FM. Your mentorship has been invaluable, and I am thankful for the opportunity to learn from you.
I extend my gratitude to the following radio stations and individuals who have played significant roles in my career:
- D.J. Loving Cee for teaching me microphone techniques.
- Willis, the programs manager at Continental Radio 96.1 (KNUST Unity Hall) in 1999.
From Continental Radio, I began my first commercial radio career at Mighty FM in Asante Mampong around the year 2000, under the leadership of Mr. Sam Peter.
After my time at Mighty FM, I joined Kiss FM in Drobo and later worked under lawyer Osei Tutu, now His Lordship, at Kings Radio in Konongo.
After dedicated service at Kings Radio, Dr. Kwame Kyei offered me a position at Light 94.9 FM in Asokwa. My work at Light FM caught the attention of the management at Angel 96.1 FM, led by Dr. Kwaku Oteng in Kumasi, who hired me in 2007. This marked a breakthrough moment in my career.
While at Angel FM, I received a job offer in 2016 from EIB Network, the operators of Abusua 96.5, under the ownership of Nathaniel Addisi, known as Bola Ray. I worked there until 2019 when I returned to Angel 96.1.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my late mother for her contributions to some of my show’s content, including “Bone Ka.” Growing up, she owned a recording studio at Awona Fanti New Town in Kumasi, where she even trained me to play the turntable. Her passion for the music industry has always inspired me. Her contributions were immense, and I am thankful for her creativity and support. May her beautiful soul continue to rest in peace.
I also want to thank Mr. Samuel Kofi Acheampong, also known as Bronzy Teflon of ABN Ghana, for his friendship and collaboration over the years. Your support means a lot to me.
Furthermore, I want to express my gratitude to my amazing fans and listeners. Thank you for tuning in every day, sharing your stories, and making this journey incredibly rewarding and special. I have felt so much love and support from each of you, and I am truly grateful. Together, we’ve shared many laughs, shed tears, and celebrated countless memorable moments.
I also want to extend my thanks to my dedicated Drive Crew, as well as the musicians, actors, actresses, celebrities, and all the wonderful personalities who have appeared on my programs or assisted me in various ways. Your contributions have left a lasting impact on my journey.
My deepest appreciation goes to my family for their unwavering support, peace of mind, and constant prayers. I love you all.
As I move forward, I am excited to dedicate myself to consultancy, mentoring, and grooming up-and-coming radio personalities. I am passionate about giving back to the industry that has given me so much, and I look forward to helping shape the next generation of radio presenters.
I AM STILL A RADIO PRESENTER.
Ike De Unpredictable.
