VIDEO: Adesope Olajide narrates how they started playing more Nigerian songs on airwaves

Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, has narrated how they started playing more Nigerian songs on airwaves.

According to him before 2002 and 2003, there was no law stipulating that broadcasters were supposed to play more Nigerian songs on the airwaves. The airwaves were predominantly filled with R&B songs.

He added that, there was a clamour for more Nigerian music on our airwaves —and that was eventually supported by the law where broadcasters were mandated to play 60-70% local content, he told Andy Dosty on #DaybreakHitz on Hitz FM in Accra.

Adesope, continued that some media houses disobeyed the laws and as a results they were fined.

“When the local content law was passed in Nigeria, flouters were fined. Media houses were fined for going against the law”.

Olajide threw his support behind Samni, Black Sherif, and other industry personalities pushing for the #PlayGhana initiative, which aims at playing more Ghanaian songs on the airwaves than foreign ones.
