Actor Lilwin files lawsuit against Abrempong TV

Popular Ghanaian actor and singer Lilwin through his WEEZY EMPIRE has sued Abrempong TV for unauthorized broadcasting of the movie “A COUNTRY CALLED GHANA”.

Renowned Ghanaian actor and singer Lilwin, through his WEEZY EMPIRE, has initiated legal action against Abrempong Television for unauthorized broadcasting of the film “A Country Called Ghana”.

A lawsuit has been filed by Enoch Sebastian Owusu ESQ, Managing Partner of NexLaw Attorneys, seeking GHS1,000,000.00 in damages.

Additionally, the lawsuit requires the defendants to refrain from broadcasting the subject movie or any WEEZY EMPIRE productions without prior consent.

Failure to comply within 14 days may prompt further legal proceedings.

Dear Sir/Madam,

RE: CEASE AND DESIST ILLEGAL AND UNAUTHORIZED BROADCASTING AND
DEMAND FOR COMPENSATION FOR UNAUTHORIZED BROADCAST OF THE
FILM TITLED A COUNTRY CALLED GHANA’

We act as Solicitors for WEEZY EMPIRE, the lawful owner and copyright holder of the film titled “A Country Called Ghana” (hereinafter referred to as “our client”) and write in respect of the above subject.

Our client’s attention has been drawn to several broadcasts of the above-mentioned film on your television station without any authorization, license or consent, an act which has been further confirmed by several individuals with video evidence. This unauthorized act amounts to a blatant infringement of our client’s copyright under the laws of Ghana.

Our client informs us that your station’s conduct has not only violated its economic and moral rights in the film but has caused substantial commercial loss and damage to its intellectual property rights.

Consequently, we have the instructions of our client to demand from you as we hereby do for the following:

i. That you pay an amount of One Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000,000.00) as
compensation for the unauthorized use, broadcast and infringement of our client’s
copyright in the film.

ii. That you cease any further broadcast of the subject movie or any of our client’s productions without its consent.

Should you fail to comply with the above request within 14 days, we have our client’s firm instructions to institute legal proceedings against you without further recourse to you. And should you provoke such needless recourse to litigation, we shall further recover from you damages for breach of intellectual property rights and the cost of litigation.
