Renowned gospel vocalist Ohemaa Mercy has shared her past experiences as a teacher in government institutions.

In the view of the ” Wofiri Mu” hitmaker, teaching in Ghana’s government institutions is a “terrible” occupation.
During an exclusive interview with Afia Achiaa on Bryt Xtra on Bryt TV, she discussed the poor conditions of service, pointing out that the system is not favorable for educators.
She mentioned;

“…so if there’s an assertion that teachers in Ghana can’t be millionaires, honestly, it could be true,” she admitted.” The foundation and structure of government teachers in Ghana is sad. I’ve been there before. Being a teacher in Ghana is not easy. In terms of salaries and the likes, it’s hard for government teachers… the private school teachers aren’t facing these issues, but the government ones have been going through it since my time as a teacher till now.”
As a former teacher now dedicated to Gospel music, she underscored the significant challenges in education, including low salaries, inadequate pension benefits, and insufficient systemic support, despite some enhancements made since her teaching career.
“Even though it has upgraded as compared to my time, the problem still remains. It’s terrible working as a teacher in the government institution,” she emphasized.
